ALL ABOUT FIRST GRADE
This year your child will complete one of the most important milestones in their life-the first day of First Grade! I understand that you and your child may have met this day with excitement or apprehension and I hope that this information will help you to know what to expect in First Grade this year and may answer any questions you may have.
I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Robbie Evans and I have been teaching for 27 years. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor Of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a certerfication in Early Childhood. I am married to Kenneth for forty years and have two married children. Kenneth owns his own moving business for twenty years and my daughter is a State Farm agent in Palestine, Texas. I have five wonderful grandchildren,Gavin, Karly, Karsen, Chloe, and Paisley.
Parent/Teacher Relationship
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, parent meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You may call me at school (8759344), send me a note or call me at home (8751969). I am available for conferences (by appointment) regarding your child's progress.
Parent Participation
Throughout the school year there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by sending needed supplies or treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.
School Attendance
Your child's regular and prompt attendance is crucial to their success. Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction and make sure that your child attends everyday except in case of illness or emergency. Please send a written excuse and call the office when absent.
School Hours
Peavy students attend school from 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Being on time is very important. We begin learning when the bell rings. Your child loses important learning time when arriving at school late. Tardy bell is at 8:05.
If you need to pick up your child during the school day. you must check in at the front office. Our school secretary will call your child to come to the office over the intercom.
Changes in Transportation
If you plan to pick up your child that normally rides a bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you must send a written note. Do not rely on your child to give information, because children often become confused and relay information incorrectly. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
Money
Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information written on it:
Child's first and last name.
Amount of Money.
Purpose for the money.
Teacher's name.
Please send lunch money on MONDAYS ONLY for the week.
Book Order
SeeSaw book orders will be sent home monthly. If you wish to order, fill out the form and send a check made out to SeeSaw Books in an envelope. Cash or checks made out to me will not be accepted.
Discipline
Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child's success, confidence and well being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure, free from all threats of physical or emotional harm. It is important that each child learn to develop self-discipline and good work habits and to think independently.
Homework
Homework will be sent home every Monday. Please practice these skills with your child each night. Readers will be sent home weekly.
These skills reinforce sight words we are learning in class.
Snack
Please send a nutritious snack and water bottle each day. No can drinks or candy please.
"Treasures" Reading Program
This all new comprehensive, research-based reading program offers a wealth of high quality literature to engage early learners. Explicit instruction and ample practice ensure student's growth in reading proficiency. Each weeks' lesson integrates grammar, writing, and spelling for a total language arts approach. Students who experience the "Treasures" program learn how to read and respond to a variety of text, acquire strategies for accessing information and for exploring concepts from many areas of knowledge and learn how to communicate effectively on both oral and written language.
Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to teach your child and to instill values and knowledge.
